Jayashree had been bedbound for two months after a stroke. Her son, who cared for her, grew tired of doing so. He took her to the roof terrace of their building and threw her off, trying to pass it off as a suicide. But someone sent an anonymous letter to the police, urging them to investigate further. Police found a CCTV video revealed that Jayashree did not have the mobility to get over the railing of the terrace herself, and her son was arrested for murder.

Aishika Sarkar

Shreya was “screaming and being stubborn”, so her mother decided to kill her. She threw Shreya off a third-floor balcony. When she saw that Shreya was still breathing, she carried Shreya back up the stairs and threw her off the balcony again. This time, the impact killed Shreya.

Shreya’s neighbors, who had seen her mother throw her off the balcony for the second time, chased down and captured Shreya’s mother and tied her to a telephone pole, then called the authorities.

When she died, Shreya had just begun to learn how to talk.
