Name: Lucas (Last name unknown). Died: June 6, 2016. Age at death: 7 months. Cause of death: Neglect. Location: Hasselt, Belgium. Disability: Feeding disorder, as diagnosed by parents.
Lucas’s parents believed that he had a feeding disorder. Although neither of them had any medical training, they did not seek a doctor’s help and instead assumed he must be gluten and lactose intolerant. They switched to feeding Lucas a gluten-free, casein-free diet made of nut and grain milks. This diet does not contain sufficient nutrition for a baby, and Lucas failed to gain weight.
For seven months, Lucas slowly starved to death. Only when he was dying did his parents seek help from a doctor, and even then it was a homeopathic doctor, who sensibly told them to go immediately to a hospital. By the time they arrived, Lucas was dead. He weighed half what a baby his age should weigh, and had no food in his digestive system.

Brothers Daniel and Luke were drowned in the bathtub by their mother, because she was convinced they were autistic and would be “better off in heaven”. Luke died right away; Daniel lingered on life support for a few days.
