Khushi’s uncle found her dead on her bed; her father, who had lost his job eight months previously, had hanged himself in the kitchen, where investigators also found a packet of poison which they believe he gave to Khushi. Despite the lack of a suicide note, the authorities concluded that he must have been motivated by “the financial strain and the responsibility of taking care of his daughter”.

Sisters Neetu, Nikki, Neeru, and Nidhi were mourning their mother, who had died a year before. Neighbors said that because of their health, they never left their room. They shared one mobile phone between them. Their father, who had withdrawn from society after his wife’s death, was obsessed with their illnesses and their treatment at one hospital or another. A friend of the family says that their father did not want them to go out or work.

Following a tip from the building caretaker, authorities broke into their apartment and found the four women’s bodies, their father’s body, and the poisoned sweets that their father had used to kill his daughters before taking his own life.

The young women were all graduates. One had studied home science, another commerce, and two of them studied arts.

Arshad’s friends allegedly murdered him with a hammer and broken beer bottles, then tried to cart his body away in a suitcase and abandon the suitcase on an express train; but railway police saw them and suspected foul play. Checking the suitcase, they found Arshad’s body inside.

After further investigation, authorities now suspect that Arshad’s wife had been having an affair with one of his friends, and that she, the two friends, and a third man planned and carried out the murder.

When Preetika was three years, ten months old, her mother brought her to the hospital, unresponsive, and Preetika was declared dead from strangulation. Police, who interviewed Preetika’s mother, said, “Upon questioning, the mother said she was worried about how her daughter would lead her life as she was autistic and hence, she decided to murder her.”

Preetika leaves behind her twin sister, who is also autistic, but with less pronounced autistic traits. Her death followed an incident in which Preetika’s sister was accepted to a preschool, but Preetika was rejected.

Priyanka had a mental illness, which had been treated and was in remission. She had been married and had a 13-month-old son when the mental illness came back, and a visit to a place of worship did no good. Her parents allegedly strangled her when they found out she was sick again and claimed it was a natural death, but Priyanka’s neighbors were suspicious and contacted the police, who arrested her parents.
