Ramani lived with her husband and two sons, one of whom was also disabled. It was the middle of the night when her husband allegedly strangled her to death and tried to kill his disabled son, but the other son woke up and intervened to stop him, saving his brother. Neighbors called the police, and Ramani’s husband was arrested. Police say his motive had to do with financial difficulty related to caring for his disabled family members.

Yashodabai Patil

Muruganantham L

Name: Muruganantham, son of Lingaswami.

Details:
Muruganantham’s uncle allegedly gathered a gang of people to ambush Muruganantham and hack him to death. The motive was a property dispute related to Muruganantham’s reporting of lack of fire safety and an illegal addition made to a building owned by his uncle.

Muruganantham, a lawyer, advocated for the rights of disabled prisoners in Indian jails. He was instrumental to the establishment of the Muruganantham Doctrine, which requires that prisoners must be allowed accommodations for their disabilities while incarcerated.

Case Status:
R Dhandapani (Uncle), N Nattudurai, S Dakshinamurthy, C Nagarajan, K Ram, S Sundaran, Balamurugan, Sathish Kumar, Sasikumar, Sudharsan, Annadurai, and Muruganantham were all arrested in connection with the murder.

Chandrasen Ramteke

Details:
Chandrasen had been bedridden for two years after a stroke, and his wife cared for him. When his wife had an affair and Chandrasen found out about it, she and her lover allegedly smothered him to death and tried to pass it off as a natural death. However, a postmortem examination established that Chandrasen had died from asphyxia, and the two were arrested. Police say that Chandrasen’s wife confessed to the crime, admitting that she had pinned her husband down while her lover smothered him.

Chandrasen had two daughters and a son.

Details:
This baby girl was one of a pair of twin sisters. Her sister, the larger of the pair, was strong and healthy; but the smaller girl was having difficulty eating and was not gaining weight. The twins and their mother lived with their grandmother, and their father visited often. On one of these visits, their father was alarmed to realize that the smaller twin had disappeared.

After a search, the missing baby was located in the bushes around the house, with injuries consistent with a fall, and was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. Police who questioned her mother say she was frustrated with the baby’s illness and confessed to killing the baby by throwing her from the balcony.

Harihar Sahu

Harihar was a retired revenue inspector who rented out property as a landlord. He had become romantically involved with one of his tenants. The relationship had become contentious, as she reportedly wanted ownership of his property. Police say she poured kerosene on him and set him on fire, and then pretended to try to rescue him, before eventually confessing to the crime. Harihar was rushed to the hospital and then transferred to a specialist center, but he died from his injuries.

Omana

43-year-old man

Details:
When this man was found murdered, police interviewed witnesses and analyzed CCTV footage and concluded that his partner had tried to enter the house, found the door locked with the deaf man asleep, and tried to force it open. When the victim woke, angry, his partner allegedly murdered him with an axe and a steel rod.

He was the supervisor of custodial services at a local cemetery.

Arshish and Ashish Reddy

Details:
Arshish and Ashish’s mother attacked them with a coconut-cutting knife, causing severe injuries. Arshish died on the scene, and Ashish died on the way to the hospital. Their mother jumped from the fifth floor of her apartment building to her death. The press reported that the boys’ mother was depressed because she and her sons shared an eye disorder that required them to use eye drops every four hours to avoid pain and vision loss.
