Details:
Stephanie had dementia and was living in a care home. When her husband came to get her from the care home, staff became alarmed and called police. But they were too late; Stephanie’s husband had already cut her throat. He attempted suicide himself, but survived.

Stephanie’s husband claims that it had been a suicide pact, but we find this unlikely, since Stephanie was in residential care for Alzheimer’s and unlikely to be able to consent to such a thing. -Ed.

Details:
Philip’s girlfriend moved in with him to act as his caretaker. She had been staying with him for about six months, and stealing from him. His parents, William and Orsi Carter, were visiting him to check on him as they often did. Philip’s mother laid down the law, demanding that his girlfriend leave. Angry that she was going to be thrown out of the home and lose access to her source of money, she killed Philip and his parents by bludgeoning and shooting them to death.

Philip was a probation officer who retired when he became disabled. His neighbors all knew him as a quiet, kind man; he had lived in the same house for forty years.

Perpetrator: Nancy Amelia Jackson (Girlfriend/caretaker), charged with three counts of murder.

Sharron Wood

Sharron had a son named James David, who had cerebral palsy and needed round-the-clock care. When Sharron’s own health began to worsen, her husband decided that caring for David was too much of a burden and that Sharron had “become hard to handle”. As they slept in their beds, he bludgeoned her and David with a metal mallet.

Sharron and David survived the initial attack, and were both taken to a hospital and then a rehabilitation facility. Sharron had to have facial reconstruction. However, nearly three months after the attack, Sharron died of her injuries. David survived, though with bleeding on the brain.

Sharron was a retired child care director who had worked at a local elementary school for fifteen years as well as helping her son David.

Perpetrator: Judson Anthony Wood (Husband), charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder; declared incompetent to stand trial and hospitalized in a forensic mental hospital to restore competency.
