Malu Devi

Because of Malu’s disability, her husband was given permission to marry again. Together, Malu and her fellow wife, 22-year-old Dariya, had three children.

Their husband, dissatisfied with his wives, allegedly locked Malu and Dariya in his car and set the car on fire. They burned to death; their children survived.

Sana Iqbal

Details:
Sana and her husband were involved in a car accident, in which she died. Her death was initially categorized as accidental, but her family demanded that the authorities investigate further. They said that Sana had told them about her abusive husband, that she feared for her life, and that if she died, it would be murder. Repeated complaints of domestic abuse had been filed without much action.

Finally the authorities arrested Sana’s husband. Authorities suspect him of hitting her on the head with something heavy before ramming the car into a concrete divider.

Sana was a biker who made a cross-country journey to raise awareness about depression and suicide.

Jayashree had been bedbound for two months after a stroke. Her son, who cared for her, grew tired of doing so. He took her to the roof terrace of their building and threw her off, trying to pass it off as a suicide. But someone sent an anonymous letter to the police, urging them to investigate further. Police found a CCTV video which revealed that Jayashree did not have the mobility to get over the railing of the terrace herself, and her son was arrested for murder.

Details:
Shreya was “screaming and being stubborn”, so her mother allegedly decided to kill her. Shreya’s mother allegedly threw her off the third-floor balcony. Neighbors say that when she saw that Shreya was still breathing, she carried Shreya back up the stairs and threw her off the balcony again. This time, the impact killed Shreya.

Shreya’s neighbors chased down and captured Shreya’s mother and tied her to a telephone pole, then called the authorities.

When she died, Shreya had just begun to learn how to talk.

Rookiya

Rookiya’s mother had no money for big-city medical treatment, and Rookiya’s neighbors had started referring to her as a “demon child” because of her large head. When her father came home to find Rookiya drowned in the washtub, police arrested and questioned her mother, who, they say, confessed to killing her daughter.

Authorities noted that the area has a district hospital and four children’s homes that are meant to help children like Rookiya.
