Amin was in a four-year relationship with an abusive girlfriend, who had repeatedly hurt him and had been arrested three times for abusing him, but then manipulated him into refusing to press charges when he needed medical care for his injuries. Soon after she started dating another man, she tied up Amin and strangled him to death with an extension cord.

Case Status:
Charlotte Dootson (Partner), convicted of murder, sentenced to 22 and a half years to life.

Jamie Nau

Pindai Ndagurwa

Details:
Pindai’s son came home drunk and attacked his father with a piece of wood; Pindai tried to escape, but his son came after him and hit him in the head with a mattock. His wife found him unconscious, tried to hide him behind the sofa, and called for help, but Pindai died before he arrived at the hospital.

Case Status:
Godknows Ndagurwa (Son), convicted of murder with actual intent, sentenced to 16 years.

Mason Weston

Details:
When Mason was taken to the hospital with severe injuries, his attacker initially said he had fallen, but eventually told police that he had slammed Mason’s head against the wall and kicked him. Mason died in the hospital. His killer admitted that he had become angry at the boy for not washing the dishes.

Reggie Bethel (Mother’s boyfriend), pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, sentenced to 8 years 4 months to 12 1/2 years.

Harvey Borrington

Details:
Harvey was home with his stepmother when she called emergency services, saying he had fallen backward and hit his head. He was taken to the hospital, but the injury proved fatal two days later. Medical examiners found that Harvey had a skull fracture caused by being hit in the head several times. Only weeks before his death, Harvey had suffered a broken arm while in the care of his stepmother.

Harvey was very detail-oriented and enjoyed lining up his toys neatly.

Kaysen Blackshear

Details:
Kaysen was brought to the hospital with brain swelling, injuries to her face and back, and a chipped tooth. Her mother allegedly delayed seeking medical help for her for some time before she finally called for an ambulance. Kaysen died in the hospital. Police say her mother admitted to withholding food, water, and medical care in the hope that Kaysen would die.

Kaysen was active and inquisitive and would chew on anything she could get her hands on.

Jasmine had been admitted to the hospital for an infection, and was alone in her room with her mother and grandmother when she was found dying of massive injuries to her ribs and liver–injuries that had not been there at admission. Police, who questioned her mother, say her mother admitted to bludgeoning her with a table after Jasmine cursed at her.

Details:
A month after being returned to his mother and her boyfriend, Zeus was found dead from a severe beating. Prosecutors told the court that Zeus had been beaten by his mother’s boyfriend, then denied medical treatment for his injuries.

His obituary describes him as “very active and full of life”.

Elsie Pinder

Name: Elsie Pinder.

Details:
Elsie died in a house fire started by her son deliberately in order to kill her. Her son, also her sole caretaker, knew that she would be unable to escape a burning house. Firefighters were able to rescue Elsie from the house, but she died from her injuries at the hospital.

Her other son, Paul, describes Elsie as kind-hearted, generous, loving, and witty, a “bottle of champagne waiting to pop”.
