Died: May 11, 2018.
Cause of death: Multiple homicide.
Location: Margaret River, Western Australia, Australia.
Disability: Autism; Rylan also had chronic pain.

Non-disabled victims: Cynda Miles, age 58; Katrina Miles, age 35.

Details:
Arye, Kadyn, Rylan, and Taye were all killed by their grandfather in a mass murder-suicide. Their mother and grandmother were murdered in the same event.

The family lived on a farm, where the four children were home-schooled, and were working on making the farm self-sustaining. They grew vegetables and even built their own dam.

The four children all kept journals, and Taye, the oldest, was becoming an accomplished writer. All the children were working on learning to swim.

Cause of death: Heat stroke.

Details:
Christopher, who went by CK, had to live in filthy conditions at home. He was five years old when his mother locked him in her car on a warm day. CK died of heat stroke, and his mother reported him missing. Initially assumed to be an accident, CK’s death raised suspicion when police reportedly searched his mother’s phone and found she had been making searches on hot-car deaths before her son died.

From CK’s obituary:
“CK loved Paw Patrol, especially the character Rubble. He loved coloring and singing. Some of his favorite songs were “Heaven is a place on earth” (Belinda Carlisle), ‘Bad at love’ (Halsey), ‘Your love’ (The Outfield), and ‘No one’ (Alicia Keys). He loved Starbucks Frappuccinos, Oreos and ice cream.”

Case status:
Whitney Bosselman (Mother), pled guilty to injury to a minor, sentenced to 8 years, sentence suspended, and 3 years of probation.

Sharron Wood

Cause of death: Bludgeoned.
Location: Niceville, Florida, USA.

Details:
Sharron had a son named James David, who had cerebral palsy and needed round-the-clock care. When Sharron’s own health began to worsen, her husband decided that caring for David was too much of a burden and that Sharron had “become hard to handle”. As they slept in their beds, he allegedly bludgeoned her and David with a metal mallet.

Sharron and David survived the initial attack, and were both taken to a hospital and then a rehabilitation facility. Sharron had to have facial reconstruction. However, nearly three months after the attack, Sharron died of her injuries. David survived, though with bleeding on the brain.

Sharron was a retired child care director who had worked at a local elementary school for fifteen years as well as helping her son David.

Case status:
Judson Anthony Wood (Husband), charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder; declared incompetent to stand trial and hospitalized in a forensic mental hospital to restore competency.

Kathleen’s husband had been charged with assaulting her three times over twelve years. Tired of caring for her and having had a fight with her, he killed her by dousing her in gasoline and setting her on fire.

She was a retired Army nurse who spent her career at at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii.

Case status:
Delano Grangruth (Husband), pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, arson of an occupied dwelling and arson of real personal property; sentenced to 60 to 130 years in prison.

Judith Howe

Details:
When told by friends that she should take Judith to the doctor, Judith’s daughter and caregiver refused to do so despite her mother’s worsening condition and, instead of caring for her mother, spent her mother’s money on herself. Eventually someone called for a welfare check, and Judith was brought to the hospital with severe bedsores, weighing 80 pounds. Too far gone to survive, she died in hospice from a combination of infection and malnutrition.

Case status:
Sandy Howe (Daughter), convicted of abuse of an elderly person with severe bodily harm; sentenced to 6-15 years.
