Christopher Bosselman

Details:
Christopher, who went by CK, had to live in filthy conditions at home. He was five years old when his mother locked him in her car on a warm day. CK died of heat stroke, and his mother reported him missing. Initially assumed to be an accident, CK’s death raised suspicion when police reportedly searched his mother’s phone and found she had been making searches on hot-car deaths before her son died.

“CK loved Paw Patrol, especially the character Rubble. He loved coloring and singing. Some of his favorite songs were “Heaven is a place on earth” (Belinda Carlisle), ‘Bad at love’ (Halsey), ‘Your love’ (The Outfield), and ‘No one’ (Alicia Keys). He loved Starbucks Frappuccinos, Oreos and ice cream.”

Case status:
Whitney Bosselman (Mother), pled guilty to injury to a minor, sentenced to 8 years, sentence suspended, and 3 years of probation.

Details:
LaBrawn was left with his mother despite the fact that the child welfare offices suspected abuse or neglect. He was left in dirty diapers and suffered from bedsores. His death certificate states that he died from “cerebral palsy with malnutrition and dehydration”, and that “neglect contributed to his death”.

Cheng Ting-hin

Details:
Soon after being diagnosed with ADHD, Cheng was murdered by his grandmother, who strangled him with the straps of a backpack. She left a note that said she “didn’t want the boy to live a difficult life”.

The little boy was a Primary One student whom neighbors remember as “kind and polite”.

Case status:
Kan Kwai-fong (Grandmother), pleaded guilty to manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility, sentenced to 5 years.

Cynthia’s son called 911, and medics arrived to find her dead on the floor where she had fallen and lain for more than a day. Her son had allegedly seen her fall down the stairs, but refused to call for help because he “wanted her to die”.

Police found Akie dead in her apartment. They also found a letter addressed to police from Akie’s husband, which said that he had killed his wife.

Levi Illingayuk

Details:
Levi’s son smashed in his father’s ribs during a drunken fight. Levi was taken to the hospital but died soon afterward because he could not get enough oxygen.

Levi was Inuit and testified for the Qikiqtani Truth Commission about an incident that happened when he was a child. When he was about 12, some of his family died when their camp fell through the ice into the water. While he and others evacuated from the camp were gone, authorities shot their dogs and bulldozed the camp before the survivors had time to go back and collect their belongings.

Case status:
Christopher Jaypoody (Son), convicted of manslaughter, sentenced to 4 years in prison minus credit for time served; will serve 698 days in jail.
