Details:
Neighbors remember Antonio as a little boy who made a racket when he jumped up and down. He had a pet guinea pig.

One day the neighbors heard the little boy saying, “‘Please mommy. OK, mommy. I ain’t going to do it no more.'” Antonio’s mother tied him up with belts, put him in the bathtub, doused him in cooking oil, and set him on fire. The fire endangered the other residents of his apartment complex. Antonio’s pet guinea pig was found dead nearby.

Twin brothers Varad and Sarthak were killed–either poisoned or strangled–by their mother, who then committed suicide.

Kaylie Lis-Lalande

Name: Kaylie Lis-Lalande.

Details:
Kaylie’s mother neglected her, leaving her care and that of Kaylie’s little brother to her 12-year-old sibling. Kaylie was often left alone in the apartment for hours, and her mother canceled appointments with the children’s aid worker who was supposed to visit.

Summer came and Kaylie was home from school, and her mother refused all the resources she had access to. Kaylie lost weight rapidly. On the day Kaylie died, her mother left her body at a babysitter’s house, not realizing Kaylie had already died of the complications of starvation and dehydration, weighing 31 pounds.

Kaylie liked to ride the swings at the park. Her grandmother always got her a birthday cake and she loved the light from the candles. Her grandmother called her “our little butterfly”.

Case status:
Meredith Lis (Mother), pleaded guilty to failure to provide the necessities of life, sentenced to time served plus one day in jail.

Details:
Dominique lived with his foster father and his foster father’s girlfriend. While the foster father was at work, his girlfriend strangled Dominique with a T-shirt; then she staged a home invasion and claimed she and the boy had been assaulted.

Inconsistencies in her story made the truth come out, and she was convicted of murder.

Case status:
Alejandra G. P. (foster father’s girlfriend), convicted of murder, sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole.

Details:
Shreya was “screaming and being stubborn”, so her mother allegedly decided to kill her. Shreya’s mother allegedly threw her off the third-floor balcony. Neighbors say that when she saw that Shreya was still breathing, she carried Shreya back up the stairs and threw her off the balcony again. This time, the impact killed Shreya.

Shreya’s neighbors chased down and captured Shreya’s mother and tied her to a telephone pole, then called the authorities.

When she died, Shreya had just begun to learn how to talk.

Details:
For two months, this five-year-old girl was beaten and burned by her mother and her mother’s boyfriend because they “wanted to get rid of her” and resented her for the attention she needed. She died from a particularly vicious beating, and only then did her mother finally call the police, claiming that her daughter had fallen from a window.

Details:
Kentae’s mother gave him up for adoption because she was only fourteen when she gave birth. The boy stayed with his grandparents until he was taken by children’s services and eventually adopted.

Kentae’s adoptive father beat him with a belt, burned his feet with boiling water, and finally drowned him in the bathtub.

Case status:

Details:
Noah’s mother left him alone at home with his abusive father, and while she was gone, Noah’s father poisoned him with carbon monoxide from the family car. While Noah died, his father sat in the car, drinking and doing drugs, with the engine running and the door to the house open. The carbon monoxide seeped into the room where his father had left him, and Noah died of carbon monoxide poisoning.
