Name: Vinod Kumar.
Died: May 5, 2024.
Age at death: 6.
Cause of death: Drowning and/or traumatic injury.
Location: Karnataka, India.
Disability: Deaf, non-speaking.
Details:
Vinod’s parents regularly argued about him. His father was angry that his mother had given birth to a disabled boy, and allegedly told his wife to “throw the child away”. As she later told authorities, Vinod’s mother followed the suggestion. Neighbors say they saw her throw a sleeping Vinod into a canal that flows into the Kali River, where many crocodiles live. When they saw this, the neighbors raised the alarm. An immediate search was made for the boy, but he wasn’t found, and night fell, forcing the search to pause. In the morning, they found Vinod’s body. He had been fatally mauled by crocodiles.
Case Status:
Savitri Kumar (Mother), charged with murder.
Ravi Kumar (Father), charged with murder.
